How to Fold Turkey Napkins for Your Thanksgiving Celebration

Thanksgiving is about more than just the meal; it’s about the little things that make the gathering feel special. From the dessert spread to the décor, it’s those thoughtful details that bring warmth and charm to your holiday table. This year, why not wow your guests with a fun, nifty, turkey-themed napkin folding technique?

Now, before you picture yourself buried under a pile of crumpled napkins, don’t panic. It’s way easier than it looks. With just a few folds, a little aluminum foil, and a dash of patience, you can turn plain napkins into the cutest little turkeys your guests have ever seen. Trust me, these will get smiles from kids (my three were certainly entertained by them anyway), compliments from adults, and maybe even a few camera snaps before dinner starts.

What You’ll Need

  • 3 square napkins
  • A piece of aluminum foil
  • Double-sided tape

Step-by-Step Guide to Folding Turkey Napkins

Step 1: Fold the Body

Take a square napkin and fold it in half diagonally. Press firmly along the fold.

Step 2: Make the “Kite”

Unfold your napkin. Then, fold both left and right corners inward to meet at the center crease creating an upside-down kite shape.

Step 3: Add Support

Shape a piece of aluminum foil into a small triangle and tuck it inside the napkin. Fold both sides of the napkin over the foil, layering as you go. This helps the “body” hold its shape.

Step 4: Create the Head

Tuck in the bottom point of your napkin then fold it in half. Curve the top into a head shape, keeping the open edges toward the back. Bend gently so the turkey “head” sits upright.

Step 5: Fold the Tail Feathers

Take a second napkin, fold it in half, then accordion-fold it into 1-inch pleats. Fold into a fan shape and secure the center with double-sided tape.

Step 6: Add More Feathers

Repeat with a third napkin, making a taller fan to sit behind the first one. Secure the center just as before.

Step 7: Assemble Your Turkey

Place the two fanned napkins behind the turkey’s body to create a stunning display of feathers. Set one at each place setting and watch the oohs and ahhs roll in!
