What You’ll Need

  • hand mixer and large mixing bowl to combine the cake and filling. This will form the base of your Pumpkin Cake Balls, so you want to make sure everything is well combined and there aren’t any large chunks. Alternatively, you can mix the cake and filling together by hand.
  • Use a small scoop to help form your cake pops.
  • A parchment-lined baking sheet to transport your cake balls to the refrigerator and freezer and to help you keep your counters clean while decorating.
  • piping bag will be needed to help you with the final decorations.

Storage Information

Once your cake balls are complete, store them in an airtight container with a paper towel lining the bottom. Place the cake balls on top of the paper towel in a single layer. Store in the refrigerator for five to seven days.

Tips for Making Pumpkin Cake Balls

  • If your white chocolate starts to solidify while you’re making your cake balls, re-heat it in the microwave. Consider melting the chocolate in small batches to avoid having to constantly stop to reheat. This will help the dipping process go more smoothly.
  • We don’t recommend keeping these cake balls out of the refrigerator for more than an hour. At room temperature, the cream cheese in the filling will begin to soften and change the texture of the cake balls.

Servings: This recipe makes about 20 Pumpkin Cake Balls.

Ingredients
  • 1 Dutch Apron® Bakery Pumpkin Cake Roll
  • White chocolate
  • Orange food coloring
  • Pretzels
  • Green icing
Instructions
Make the Cake Balls
  1. Take the Pumpkin Cake Roll out of the packaging and let it sit on the counter to thaw for 30 minutes.
  2. Once thawed, break off or cut up pieces of the cake roll and place them into a large mixing bowl. Then, using a mixer on medium speed, beat until thoroughly mixed.
  3. Use a small scoop to make uniformed balls. Our scoop is roughly 1 1/2 tbsp. Roll the balls between your hands to finish rounding them out. Place the finished ones on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Put them in the refrigerator to firm up for 20 minutes.
  4. After chilling, use a piece of string to gently press lines around each ball, creating the appearance of a pumpkin.
  5. Once you’ve shaped all your cake balls, place them back on the baking sheet and put them in the freezer for an additional 20 minutes.
Decorate Your Pumpkin Cake Balls
  1. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the white chocolate in 30-second intervals, stirring in between each interval, until it is completely melted.
  2. Add orange food coloring to the melted chocolate and stir until you achieve the desired shade of orange.
  3. Stick a fork in the bottom of one of your cake balls. Then, dip it into the colored white chocolate, ensuring it gets completely coated. Let any excess chocolate drip off before placing it on a cooling rack.
    • Tip: Place parchment paper below the rack to catch any excess white chocolate that may still be dripping off of your cake balls.
  4. Immediately after coating, insert a small piece of a pretzel into the top of the cake ball to act as the pumpkin stem.

Now you have a tray of Pumpkin Cake Balls to share at your Halloween Party, Thanksgiving dinner, or just to enjoy with a nice glass of apple cider. With their pumpkin flavor, creamy orange coating, pretzel stems, and icing decorations, these cake balls are a charming addition to any fall menu. So, go ahead, give this recipe a try and enjoy all the delicious, bountiful flavors that autumn has to offer! Your taste buds will certainly thank you for it.
